If you’re reading this & you haven’t blogged about the first chapter (Introduction & Love), go do that first! Also, don’t forget to participate in the discussion on last week’s questions. You need to comment on at least 2 teammates posts.
I loved reading the responses to the reading and experiences every week. This week’s chapter on Longing was really interesting.
I want you to start by looking up and reading one of the stories of desires being brought to God found on page 31. If you don’t know where the stories are located in the Bible offhand, you might want to figure out some key words from the sentence description and go to http://www.biblegateway.com and do a key word search. Then you can look it up in your Bible and read the whole story. Tell me which story you decided to read and where it’s found in the Bible.
One of the exercises this week encourages you to write some things out. One of the practices that I’ve found to be really helpful is to have a prayer journal. A prayer journal is basically a place to write out your thoughts, prayers, requests, thanks, etc to God. This week I want you to find a notebook or journal that you can use as your prayer journal. What you write in this will just be between you and God. I’d encourage you to write out some of your prayers to God, to reflect on your prayer experiences, and/or to write out different prayer requests you have. Bring it with you on Sunday so that we can know that you followed through…but whatever you write in it is private, so be honest & open.
One of my favorite music groups, Gungor, took one of the prayers of Augustine that’s quoted in this chapter and put it to music. You can listen to it by clicking here.
Tell us about one of your prayer experiences this week. What’d you do? How did it make you feel? What did you learn?
for the story thing i read the one about zacchaeus when he climbed the tree to see Jesus. the story is found in Luke 19.i also realy lik the chapter because it talks about us yearning for the wrong things.
Yes! That was very interesting. I never thought about us yearning for the wrong things. Hmmm… I have to give more thought to it. Well… I guess it does make sense now!
Good job Paige and Morgan blogging sooo early unfortunently i still have read the longing chapter!! But i wiil do so asap
This week nothing really happen in between me and prayer. I don’t understand how people have time in between work or school to pray/. I mean I try so hard to pray but I’m just to busy. Here my life for dress, school, homework, think of idea for a new video, and sleep. Come Firday oh,no i have to read. Can someone help me?
Well, what you need to do is take time from activities that maybe you would like to do, but really don’t need to. I mean, I don’t want to say that school isn’t important, but in the long run I think you’ll benefit more from taking time to pray and get to know God. So, whenever your watching t.v., outside, listening to music, getting ready for bed, or even just riding the bus to and from school, you’ll find time to pray. If it helps, make a list of your daily schedule (it may sound lame, but trust me it helps) and pick out things or times to set aside special for praying. I think you’ll find time. Just make that a top priority. If that doesn’t work, I have a few more ideas. Just ask
I know how you feel Quentin. I am so busy, I feel like when I take time to pray I am neglecting my responibilities. But if I really think about it praying is part of my #1 priority(Loving God). I wish I had taken more time to pray when I was your age. Morgans idea sounds pretty good.
The story I read was about when Jesus was 12 years old and stade behind in the temple when his parents left. You can find it in luke 2:41.
This was an interesting story!
ive also read that story my favorite thing is how Jesus is teaching the pharacies and they are learning. also when his parents said where have youbeen he replies did you not know that i would be in the house of my father thats not the exact words but you get the point.
cool spelling isaiah
you spelled spelling wrong just kidding
hahaha no
Today I prayed for God to answer my desires and for Him to let me know that he’s there for me! It made me feel good that I was finally telling my desires to someone (especially God) instead of keeping them inside me! I learnede that God might not answer your prayers right away but, sometimes He comes around and answers them (whether you notice or not).
This is exactly how I feel. i prayed months back for a solution on this one thing, and I think I just got it. And that feeling is really great.
good job morgan it always does feel good to tell someone else ur desires and its even better wen u share them with God.
It is so easy for us to keep our feelings or desires inside. But it feels much better when we let them all out. I’m glad to see that you were able to do that.
The story I looked up was when Jesus was in the temple while Mary and Joseph looked for him anxiously, and found him there. As they asked him why he was there, he responded “Why is it that you were looking for Me? Did you not know that I had to be in My Father’s house?” I found it in Luke 2:41-50.My praying experience was wonderful. i just layed in my bed and had a heart to heart with God.I felt loved. Just pure loved.i learned that God really does listen and give you ideas on your problems.Praying is very beneficial.
i like the most is when you dont feel love by anyone you cn pray with god and he can make you feel loved and really affect your day
I chose to read Song of Songs 3.
This week I have been trying to ask the question “what are you looking for at this moment in your life?” just as Mark says to do in the “What are you Looking For?” section. This is a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. It makes me feel like I’m giving God more control of my life, which is a great feeling. And I am learning that the more I give to God the better I feel. My hope is to continue this into this week because I did not get out of it what I had hoped this week so we will see what comes of it this week.
I do love that song!
I chose to read the story of Zaccheaus in Luke 19.
MY favorite activity this week was “What are you looking for?” I think this activity really showed me what I truely wanted out of my life.
I liked the activite “what are you looking for” because i never thought about what i really wanted from god and it also was kind of hard to find what i really needed. Also just reading him talking about yearnings really was somthing to think about.I think that i like this chapter better then the first one because like i said about the first time i blogged about the loving chapter it said how when i was younger thats all i learned about in bible school.
oh and i chose to read the story of zaccheaus in luke 19
